On Friday, October 24th, the Fernie RV Resort received the Community Tourism Achievement award at the Fernie Virtual Business Excellence Awards. Shelley Barrington, FRVR General Manager, and Dana Barrons, FRVR Service Manager, graciously accepted the award that is based on marketing creativity and success, investment that has resulted in increased visitors, and demonstrated support for the Fernie tourism industry.
This is the second Fernie Community Tourism Achievement Award for the Resort, the first was awarded on the opening year in 2016. The 2020 award falls on the fifth season of business and we are humbled once again. The Resort’s success is based on many factors however the support of our guests is the impetus for receiving this award. Your support of the Resort and the Fernie community, facilitates positive development of our product and benefits the community as a whole. The Resort and the community appreciate your business, thank you.
The Fernie Chamber of Commerce presents the Fernie Business Excellence Awards. This year over 60 local businesses were nominated for an award, and each business was asked to complete an awards application that was submitted to a panel of independent judges from outside the Fernie area. The other finalists for the Community Tourism Achievement award were Fernie Alpine Resort and Island Lake Lodge and we acknowledge the magnitude and significance of winning with such esteemed fellow nominees. Thank you to the judges who recognized our vision, commitment and success.
The Fernie RV Resort opened on April 1st, 2016 with a total of 115 campsites. This included 71 deluxe back-in sites, 26 premium pull-through sites built for large Class “A” motor coaches, 17 tent camping sites, and one group camping site to accommodate up to 15 people. We had two RV’s for the opening and campers supported us from that weekend onward. That first season our sites consisted of a large island of sod with 350 newly planted trees and surrounded by seeded dirt. Fortunately, our guests saw the potential and looked beyond to the Fernie golf club, the Elk River, Maiden Lake, the endless trails, the amazing mountain views, and the year around activities.
Over the past five years the trees have grown, the recreation fields developed, children’s playground built, gardens planted, five heated Yurts added, an Adventure Centre sprang up offering year around activities, and new developments are soon to be announced.
The Resort is now successfully entering the winter season where occupancy has more than doubled from the previous year. The winter season has developed with campers and glampers enjoying the skiing, snowshoeing, fat biking and hiking opportunities. The Nordic, fat biking and walking trails are groomed to the Resort and the other activities are just minutes away.
So, thank you again from all of us at the Fernie RV Resort. We really appreciate your support and recognition that our vision is worthy of such an honourable award and your continued support.
