The 2023 FRVR Holiday Decorating Contest & Community Bonfire at the Fernie RV Resort was a sparkling success, showcasing the community’s festive spirit and creative flair. This eagerly anticipated annual event not only brought together resort guests in a vibrant display of holiday cheer but also highlighted the importance of community, creativity, and giving back.
The contest, with its generous prize pool of $600, spurred participants to go above and beyond in their holiday decorations. Judging took place on December 16th, alongside a community bonfire that served as a festive gathering point. The atmosphere was further enlivened with Christmas punch, hot chocolate, and treats, fostering a sense of warmth and togetherness among the attendees.
A remarkable 15 sites participated in the contest, each bringing a unique and creative approach to their decorations. The level of inventiveness and enthusiasm made the competition exceptionally tight, reflecting the spirited involvement of the resort’s guests.
The independent judges had the challenging task of scoring these impressive displays, eventually awarding the top three prizes as follows:
1st Place ($300 Eldo’s Independent Gift Card): Don & Tamara at Site G13. Their “Fernie Backcountry RV Santa Sleigh” theme was not only visually striking but also environmentally conscious, featuring recycled and reused materials with a touch of local support. In a gracious gesture, they announced their intention to donate the prize to a local charity.
2nd Place ($200 Canadian Tire Gift Card): Mallory & Clayton at Site B29. Their live nativity scene was a beautiful and heartfelt representation of the biblical story of Jesus’s birth, adding a deeply meaningful element to the festive celebrations.
3rd Place ($100 Le Bon Pain Gift Card): Craig & Sandra at Site A8. Their jumping skier-themed Christmas display brought a dynamic and sporty vibe to the holiday ambiance.
